Matariki questions

 Last week Kakapo class has started reading slides about Matariki.On the third slide It said to answer some Matariki questions on a blog.The first question asked when is Matariki due in 2021 and Matariki was due from the 24 to the 11th of July 2021.The next question asked what is the name of the central star of star cluster and it was Matariki.The third question asked why do you think matariki lost its significance?I think because the celebration has been going on for years and some new people have came to New Zealand and dosen't like the celebration.The forth question asked what is the matariki patterns in te reo maori and the pattern was a star with what ever moari design you put inside of the star.

Facts about Thames

Thames 

 This week in Kakapo the Rua reading group had to choose a town or city to learn about and I choose Thames.The population of Thames is 7,680 people and the Thames barrier was built in 1974 .Thames is known for its gold mining tunnels. Thames in maori is Hauraki and Thames is apart of the Coromandel .From Kaitaia to Thames it is 5 hours and 58 mins and 425km .Thames is the biggest town in the Coromandel and its is named after the wider locality and also the Thames river in England.Did you now that a part of the lord of the rings filmed in Thames.

chapter 3 A wrinkle in time

A wrinkle in time chapter 3

Last week and this week Kakapo class has been working on chapter three of a wrinkle in time and we have to describe how meg felt about her dad.Meg thought he looked handsome and she did fell happy that he was home.But when he wasn't there Meg and her family felt sad that there dad was gone for a while and he was gone for so long because there dad was a scientist.She also got into fights when people talked about her dad.She felt very sad but she hide it from her family.When someone brang him up she wanted to kill the person that was talking about him.

A wrinkle in time chapter 1

This term kakapo choosed a new novel to study about and its called a wrinkle in time ! The characters names in the novel is Marget meg,Teacher,Kate Murry,Sandy and Dennys ,Charles Wallace and Fortinbras. It was set at a farm,house and school there was also a hurricane were they lived. Something that stood out for me was emotions because she was a little dumb,werid,lonely and scared.

 Today's on chapter 7 had to we had to imagine we are Leslie and think about what advice we would give Janice and this is what i would advice i would you give Janice this advice. She should being a meany and  and  treat others how u would like to be treated. She should also respect Leslie for who she is.

Catherine McAuley's Life

Today kakapo class has been learning some facts about Catherine McAuley, on how she took care of the poor children and women. When Catherine McAuley was 5 years old her father passed away because he was very sick. She was left with her siblings and mother. When Catherine McAuley got older her mother died because she was very ill. Then later on her sister died cause she was sick in her death bed. She opened up a big house for the sick and homeless people.

She taught the children education and she helped the women get jobs so they could have their own family. She provided the people with clothes and food. She went to France to learn how to teach large numbers of children.

Catherine McAuley opened up the house on Bogget St in Ireland where all the rich people lived, so that the rich people would notice the homeless people. The name of the house was called the House of Mercy. Her brother and sister were Protestants like their mother but Catherine McAuley was very Catholic like her father. She died at the age of 63 and the date that she died on was the 11 of November 1841.

 How did saint McAuley gifts help the Community? saint McAuley had many gifts like a teacher,being caring , nurse and was a missionary.she was caring cause she opened up a big house for the poor and the sick to come in so the sisters can care for them .

She taught girls in school girls because she believed that girls should have education . She was a missionary and the sisters of mercy . Her Misson was to open up a house for people and care for the poor and sick.

she was a nun and wore a white clothe over her head and a black robe. She died on 11 of November 1841 and was born on 1778.We remember her as the founder of the mercy sisters

My flat Stanley

 This term, and last term, Tui class and a class in Australia, made flat Stanley's . So what we did is both of the classes got in touch with each other and decided to send Flat Stanley's to each other.You are probably wondering what is a flat Stanley? Here's a photo.

So that's what mine looks like and her name's Hannah and she came all the away from Australia. She's done a lot with me like going to the farm , camp and hanging out with me at home.My Flat Stanley basically is like a dog that follows you everywhere. Who knows what else she will get up to?

my reflection of my information report about Koalas

 Last week Tui class wrote a information report about a animal and ever one did one.I did one about koalas on a slide ,I wrote some facts about them and were they live and everyone did a different reports about a animal.

  Koalas are one of my favourite animals because they look so cute and are very kind animals. Koalas only live in Australia are there are 100,000 koalas left in the world . people think koalas are bears but they are not , they are actually cousins with kangaroos and wombats.

Did you no that they can live to twenty years but sadly there half of their forest is burnt because in Australia it is very hot and the trees catch on fire.Did you know they love cuddles and are very gentle most of the time.I have two toy koalas , one of them I had since I was three and the other one I had when i just turned nine.

 Mahi tahi challenge

Last week we did Mahi Tahi and we got into groups with people to do the film festival . So firstly we had to discuss the film and what it was going to be like . It was very hard because people were distracting each other when we needed to work.

But then we got sent off to film it . It was hard to communicate as a group. In the film we had to use the four cs, communication, critical thinking , creativity and collaboration . We used creativity and critical thinking but we needed 50% communication and collaboration. 

Then Mrs Cutler said if you don't want to go into the film festival you don't have to and so I joined another group and we have almost finished and we used all the four cs.

 Homeschool 

On June the 1st I woke up and had a sip of my hot chocolate in my mug. It had fluffy marshmallows in it that made it yummy. I went and got my bag and got my pencil case with my pens in it .Then I got my Maths book to answer my eleven times table questions.

After that I listened to music through my headphones from my Ipod , the song was called Be Happy. I had a nice healthy salad. I next went for a bike ride and popped on my helmet and went for a ride around the neighbourhood. On the way back I saw a friend and had a little chat. When I got back I had a muesli bar then finished off my eleven times tables. 

After I did my maths I went on my laptop to relax and I watched a movie called The Lama Next Door, it was super funny . 

I put my pencil case back with my pens, my maths book, my headphones, my laptop back in my bag and put my helmet and bike in the shed, and went to have dinner and finished homeschooling for the day.

Fun Friday

 My fun Friday

On Friday 14 of August I had to stay home because my mum was in Auckland the last weekend to go see my cousin. Then covid started to rise in Auckland and people didn't know it was there. 

So on Friday afternoon my mum went to go have a test and we had to wait till Sunday to find out the test and it was negative so that was good , so let get to the fun friday.Sadly I could not go to the Waitangi treaty ground but I still had a pretty go time to.So firstly in the morning We had to go to the farm to shifted cows and feed calves which was cool to see.

Then in the afternoon I made a balloon so I put layers of balloons on top of each other and filled it up with water and it looked massive.

Then I froze it for 24 hours and then had dinner and went to bed. Then in the morning I cut the balloons layers and it looked amazing and very cold too and that was my fun Friday.

MY speech reflection

MY speech

So on Monday the 3rd of August half of the people in our class presented their speeches. I presented my speech to our class and Miss Slattery. We had a list of topics and I chose ‘Do pets deserve the same care as humans?’ . I was scared at the start but when I got into the middle of the speech I felt good, then it was the next person’s turn. It took me 3 days to write my speech and 5 days to practice it .Some of the words were tricky in it, but I learnt how to say it and I enjoyed it.

Good comments and bad comments

So this week we have been learning about good comments and bad comments.So we went on a google drawing on our device and sore some comments and we had to highlight the good part about the comment or the bad part.So the thumbs up was a good comments and the thumbs down were a bad comment.We had buddies and I was with Max and Christiaan.

My awesome holiday

My awesome holiday
my family and I went on a crazy awesome holiday.So first we got up and put our bags in the car and got our cousin to because we had to drop him on the way at Auckland because he stayed with us for a week so we started our drive for a hour then we got to Whangarei and had a play and had some lunch.We started driving then we finally got to Auckland after two hours.We droped of our cousin then got something to eat then drove to mount Manganui for 2 hours then we got there it looked crazy cool and we signed in and went to sleep.The next day we had breakfast then went up a  mounting it took very long to get to the top but we finally got there and the view was so cool then we walked down and we had lunch then went to a cool rock climbing . Went back and had dinner it was yummy and for my dessert I had giner cheesecake it was so delious and went to sleep.the next day we drove to Taupo for 2 hours then we got there it look awesome we signed in and unpacked our bags in the cabin and went to sleep.The next day we spent all day at the water park it look spectacular and it was so fun.the next day we went to a place called Dixie brown and the food there were delicious then we went to the market and sore some ducks then went back to our cabin. We headed home .The drive was super long but worth it and when we got back. Our pets came and gave us a hug and we unpacked our bags and that was our awesome holiday.

The Klaus movie contract

This week we had a contract about a movie. So first we watch the movie called Klaus, then Mrs Cutler gave us the contract  and there were 12 things to do on the contract. The the favourite thing on the contract for me was fill a persons bucket up (make them happy) because it makes people happy and we had to pick a person from the sticks and I got Caleb-rose so I did a letter to her in my book. The 12 things on the contract are not big things like making a long poem cause there 12 things to do on there. That's our contract this week.
