Matariki questions

 Last week Kakapo class has started reading slides about Matariki.On the third slide It said to answer some Matariki questions on a blog.The first question asked when is Matariki due in 2021 and Matariki was due from the 24 to the 11th of July 2021.The next question asked what is the name of the central star of star cluster and it was Matariki.The third question asked why do you think matariki lost its significance?I think because the celebration has been going on for years and some new people have came to New Zealand and dosen't like the celebration.The forth question asked what is the matariki patterns in te reo maori and the pattern was a star with what ever moari design you put inside of the star.

Facts about Thames

Thames 

 This week in Kakapo the Rua reading group had to choose a town or city to learn about and I choose Thames.The population of Thames is 7,680 people and the Thames barrier was built in 1974 .Thames is known for its gold mining tunnels. Thames in maori is Hauraki and Thames is apart of the Coromandel .From Kaitaia to Thames it is 5 hours and 58 mins and 425km .Thames is the biggest town in the Coromandel and its is named after the wider locality and also the Thames river in England.Did you now that a part of the lord of the rings filmed in Thames.

chapter 3 A wrinkle in time

A wrinkle in time chapter 3

Last week and this week Kakapo class has been working on chapter three of a wrinkle in time and we have to describe how meg felt about her dad.Meg thought he looked handsome and she did fell happy that he was home.But when he wasn't there Meg and her family felt sad that there dad was gone for a while and he was gone for so long because there dad was a scientist.She also got into fights when people talked about her dad.She felt very sad but she hide it from her family.When someone brang him up she wanted to kill the person that was talking about him.

A wrinkle in time chapter 1

This term kakapo choosed a new novel to study about and its called a wrinkle in time ! The characters names in the novel is Marget meg,Teacher,Kate Murry,Sandy and Dennys ,Charles Wallace and Fortinbras. It was set at a farm,house and school there was also a hurricane were they lived. Something that stood out for me was emotions because she was a little dumb,werid,lonely and scared.

Chapter 7 question:Imagine you are Leslie. What advice would you give Janice Avery based on understanding of the chapter?

 Today's on chapter 7 had to we had to imagine we are Leslie and think about what advice we would give Janice and this is what i would advice i would you give Janice this advice. She should being a meany and  and  treat others how u would like to be treated. She should also respect Leslie for who she is.

This week we had Whaea Donna and we had to create a self portrait of our self and we also learnt some new on google drawing. This is how my portrait turn out and i'm pleased with it and I hope you like it!

Catherine McAuley 09.02.21

Catherine McAuley's Life

Today kakapo class has been learning some facts about Catherine McAuley, on how she took care of the poor children and women. When Catherine McAuley was 5 years old her father passed away because he was very sick. She was left with her siblings and mother. When Catherine McAuley got older her mother died because she was very ill. Then later on her sister died cause she was sick in her death bed. She opened up a big house for the sick and homeless people.

She taught the children education and she helped the women get jobs so they could have their own family. She provided the people with clothes and food. She went to France to learn how to teach large numbers of children.

Catherine McAuley opened up the house on Bogget St in Ireland where all the rich people lived, so that the rich people would notice the homeless people. The name of the house was called the House of Mercy. Her brother and sister were Protestants like their mother but Catherine McAuley was very Catholic like her father. She died at the age of 63 and the date that she died on was the 11 of November 1841.
